Making varsity life a little more affordable, accessible and enjoyable. Our mission is not yet complete. Simple.
“The Pimp” enables students to ssttrrreeeettccch their rand. We have removed the ‘dinginess’ of buying and selling second hand textbooks. Through our well fitted, equipped and easily accessible stores, getting cash for your books once you are done with them and picking up a second-hand copy couldn’t be easier. Did I mention this site? Yes, you can now browse through our stock and get your second-hand textbooks here and now! Even better sell your textbook on-line and get paid – we collect all around South Africa.
We started at the bottom in 2006, hustling for textbooks in a dormitory room back at varsity. Today we are at the top of the used textbook sector in South Africa, putting thousands of rands back into student’s pockets and saving them even more.
Our People & Partners
We are mad about students who dare to think out of the box and make their ideas happen. We have a young entrepreneurial team across our head office, distribution centre and various campus stores. Our team is supported by experienced funders and enterprise development specialists from reputable organisations like Enablis, Old Mutual and the South African Breweries (SAB).
From the days of hustling in Res, we are now accredited merchants and proud members of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), Eduloan and the South African Booksellers Association (SABA).
Our Award
We do not pursue awards, but are very grateful for the recognition and acknowledgements that we have received.
- In 2009 and 2010, SAB chose Pimp My Book as its overall winner in its provincial and national SABKickstart competition respectively.
- Then in 2011, we were recognized by the United Nations’ SUKUMA Africa Award as the overall small business geared towards achieving the education MDG.
- Again in 2012, Eskom made us runner ups in their business investment competition.
On behalf of all the Pimp’s @ Pimp My Book – Thank you for visiting our site.
